This includes advice on Party Structure Works, Party Wall Notices and Party Wall Awards. Covering both the interests of the property owner and the adjoining neighbour, any kind of construction project or building work that involves the 'party wall' means the Act will come into force and must be adhered to. The scope of the Act means most clients will be affected when building works are on, or near, the adjoining property. This may include:
- Demolition works.
- Extensions.
- Alterations and / or refurbishments.
- Excavations
Do I Need a Party Wall Surveyor?
Covering both residential and commercial buildings, the Party Wall Act 1996 is a significant piece of legislation that becomes applicable if any building work is planned that could affect the 'shared wall' between two buildings/properties. One of the intentions of this act is to prevent disputes between neighbours when building work is proposed. A Party Wall Notice is legally required to inform adjoining neighbours of the intended work. As Party Wall Surveyors, we can offer impartial advice on the correct procedures to follow to ensure you adhere to the criteria set out within the Act. Failing to administer the process correctly can cause delays in any building work and additional costs being incurred. We have supported both building owners and adjoining owners in respect of this piece of legislation.
As independent specialists we also offer a monitoring service to ensure any works undertaken are within full compliance of the Act. For more information contact our Building Surveying team on 01323 700100.
